Ordination of a deacon in Geneva

On the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman, 10 May 2026, Metropolitan Maximos of Switzerland presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Chapel of St Catherine — the crypt church of the Orthodox Centre of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Chambésy.

During the Liturgy, His Eminence ordained as deacon Valentin Drombry, a married French-born layman, longtime collaborator and spiritual son of Protopresbyter Alexandre Sadkowski, episcopal vicar for the French-speaking parishes of the Metropolis.

In his homily before the ordination, the Metropolitan spoke of St Photine the Samaritan and her encounter with Christ at Jacob’s well. He noted the striking growth in French-speaking Swiss approaching the Orthodox Church, and prayed that the renewal of the diocesan clergy would continue.

Deacon Valentin will serve at the French-speaking parish of St Catherine in Geneva.
